Lecturer, TESL

This role involves engaging in high-quality teaching, curriculum development, and scholarly research. Candidates should be passionate about student success, demonstrate strong teaching capabilities, and contribute actively to research, administration, and professional development initiatives.

Teaching & Learning

• Undertake teaching and teaching-related duties such as designing, preparing, and developing of teaching materials; conducting classes/lectures, tutorials, and practicals; consulting with students; invigilating, marking, and assessing.
• Participate and contribute to high-quality programme and curriculum development.
• Plan and implement teaching strategies to optimise student learning and motivate them.
• Support in research project work and scholarship of postgraduate students.
• Establish and maintain high teaching and effective learning standards to meet the University’s teaching and learning expectations.

Research

• Participate in scholarly activities, including undertaking research, conference presentations, journal publications and relevant community work.
• Support efforts to secure grants for research activities and scholarships as a co-researcher.
• Achieve the specified set of research outcome targets for the Lecturer level of appointment.

Administration and Other Activities.

• Undertake and contribute to administrative responsibilities such as attending departmental meetings and participating in committees and working groups within the Department, School, and Faculty.
• Participate in continuous relevant professional activities.
• Assist in establishing linkages with external organisations/ professional bodies in academic-related matters.

Qualifications

• A PhD in Education, TESL, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field is preferred.
• A master’s degree in education, TESL, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a relevant discipline may be accepted provided the candidate demonstrates strong teaching experience and academic potential.
• Candidates who possess a PhD or master’s degree in a field unrelated to TESL must have a bachelor’s degree in education.

• At least 3 years of teaching experience at a tertiary level is preferred.
• Experience supervising undergraduate or postgraduate research is an added advantage.

• Research skills and familiarity with academic publishing standards.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
