Lecturer – Dietetics (Faculty of Allied Health Sciences)
Job Overview
The Lecturer is responsible for fostering excellence in teaching, engagement, and professional activities in the academic discipline within the campus and University and for engaging in knowledge and expertise exchange activities within the regional community, health industry, and beyond.
The Lecturer needs to demonstrate the ability to contribute to course and subject design and deliver student-centred learning and teaching, including the capacity to incorporate new approaches to teaching and learning.
The Lecturer will contribute to the development and management of the faculty at a reasonable level commensurate with rank and occasionally engage in university-wide activities.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities
- To deliver innovative and excellent teaching, learning and assessment experiences for students relevant to the Medical and Health Science area and support in student mentoring activities.
- To contribute towards curriculum development, innovation, enhancement and quality assurance in the program.
- To support the management of education, research and/or administration in the programme/ faculty through, for example, participation in the committees
- Upgrading self-development for future teaching-learning endeavours
- Other tasks directed by the Programme Coordinator / Dean of Faculty in accordance with the nature of the candidate’s post and area of his/her expertise.
Teaching and learning:
- Undertaking teaching courses at undergraduate levels, conducting all relevant activities related to the respective courses, and achieving good and sustained levels of student progression.
- Facilitate, develop, and conduct innovative teaching and learning methods to enhance student engagement and interest in the course and increase student satisfaction.
- Supporting the enhancement of the curriculum quality innovation and developing new undergraduate programme.
- Supervise student research / coursework and projects, students on field trips, and, where appropriate, students on placements.
- Responsible for the development, planning and implementation of a high-quality education and providing a high degree of commitment towards student engagement, individual development and graduate success, resulting in a high level of student satisfaction.
- Participate in ongoing curriculum, syllabus and course structure reviews through involvement in Subject Specialist Groups (SSG)
- Contribute to the development and running of programme by taking on appropriate coordinating or leadership roles commensurate with rank
Student Support:
- Act as academic advisor/ mentor to the respective students assigned by the programme coordinator and as the primary recourse person for advice and support in academic and non-academic matters, directing them to the appropriate support services when required.
- Act as advisor to the student activities
- Provide help to weak students
- Provide high commitment towards student engagement, individual development and graduate success.
Networking and Health Industry partnership:
- Work with external parties outside the university community to facilitate and develop strong relationships in the field of expertise, having a positive impact on the university and enacting the university’s mission and vision.
- To facilitate and lead strategic collaborative partnerships locally, nationally and internationally.
- To develop and coordinate relationships with existing and new collaborative academic partners, working with other parties within and between programmes.
- Liaise with and contribute to academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
- Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and research issues.
- Participate in campus, community events, and health programmes.
Skills and Experiences
Required Qualifications
PhD/ Master’s degree in Dietetics; OR
Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics with 5 years working experience in related field With Experience in conducting research activities.
