Job Overview
This leadership role is responsible for steering the strategic direction of the university, aligning institutional priorities with a vision for academic excellence, innovation, and long-term growth. The role involves formulating and implementing policies, ensuring compliance with national regulatory frameworks, and cultivating international academic collaborations. Key duties include managing financial sustainability, optimising resource allocation, and strengthening stakeholder relations with government, industry, alumni, and global partners. Additionally, the role champions student success, well-being, and holistic development, while upholding the highest standards of governance and institutional integrity. The position is central to reinforcing the university’s reputation as a leading institution in higher education.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership
- Provide visionary leadership in line with the university’s mission, vision, and strategic objectives.
- Lead the development and implementation of long-term plans and institutional policies.
- Promote a culture of innovation, research excellence, and quality teaching.
2. Academic Excellence
- Ensure academic programs meet national and international standards.
- Foster partnerships with global institutions for academic and research collaborations.
- Promote a vibrant and inclusive academic culture.
3. Governance and Compliance
- Uphold high standards of corporate governance and institutional integrity.
- Ensure compliance with Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), Ministry of Higher
- Education (MOHE) regulations, and other statutory requirements.
4. Financial and Resource Management
- Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and sustainability.
- Ensure optimal utilization of resources and infrastructure development.
5. Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strategic relationships with government bodies, industry, alumni, and international partners.
- Represent the university at public, academic, and ceremonial events.
6. Student Experience and Welfare
- Champion student success and well-being.
- Enhance employability, entrepreneurship, and holistic development initiatives.
Skills and Experiences
- A PhD or equivalent degree from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 15 years of academic and leadership experience, including senior management
- roles (e.g., Dean, Deputy VC, Rector).
- Demonstrated track record in teaching, research, publication, and academic administration.
- Strong understanding of Malaysian higher education landscape and global trends.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to implement change and drive performance.
