Job Overview

The assistant librarian ensures the library operates smoothly and efficiently at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, organise and catalogue library resources including books and digital resources (e.g. online databases, journals, etc).
  • Organize and reshelve returned items such as periodicals, books and digital resources.
  • Handle the library new/renewal membership registration.
  • Perform routine tasks such as answering phone calls and organizing files.
  • Use and maintain computer library database to help locate library materials.
  • Handle loans between libraries.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive library environment for all students and staff.
  • Assist librarian to prepare necessary reports that focus on the library’s support for teaching and learning.
  •  Assist librarian to maintain accurate records of library inventory and circulation.
  • Assist librarian to prepare reports on library usage or events and its effectiveness.
  • Help plan and participate in library events.
  • To carry out such other duties that may be assigned to you from time to time by the Superior.

Skills and Experiences

Education Qualifications

  • Degree in Library and Information Science / Library and Information Management or equivalent qualification in

Relevant Experience

  • Preferably minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience of Library management and systems.
  • Good organisational and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the current educational framework an added advantage.

Personal Characteristics & Behaviours

  • Ability to interact with students and staff.
  • Can learn and work independently.
